Privatizing Utah Liquor Stores

Well, in the wake of the recent announcement that Utah was closing ... and then not closing ... 9 state-owned liquor stores, a new movement has been awakened.

Gaining strength is a movement to privatize the retail liquor business in Utah. Utah has always been a pro-business environment. Entrepreneurship and start-ups abound.

But because the LDS Church tells their members not to drink alcohol, it's an interesting paradox. A pro-business state. But only for some things.

There are a number of pros ... and cons ... about privatizing liquor sales in the state. A cash windfall from selling the stores being a pro. Perhaps a more limited selection being a con.

Nonetheless, at least they're talking about it. We'll keep you informed.
