Columbus Day in Utah

by David Jensen
(West Valley, Utah)

What year did Columbus Day start to be celebrated in the state of Utah?

Well David, reading through the history of Italians in Utah, I came across the following information.

Columbus Day was declared an official state holiday in 1919. That first Columbus Day parade in Salt Lake City received wide support and excellent press coverage in the Salt Lake Tribune.

Columbus Day first became an official state holiday in Colorado in 1906. And a federal holiday in 1937.

It is observed on the second Monday in October.
